Finish GRABAAWR (485+ Miles)

I completed GRABAAWR!!! In case you might not know, but GRABAAWR stands for "Great Annual Bicycle Adventure Along The Wisconsin River". This involved bicycling over 485+ miles in 7 days. The weather was on the warmer side (90+ F), and we only got rained on once. I can proudly say that I never walked up any hills, and we average over 17 miles per hour on the bike. GRABAAWR had a small turn out this year, just around 473 people. The average age was 53 years old, and many have done other tours. The best way to describe it is like summer camp for adults. Most people are on the bike between 6-7 am, and get to the school by 2-4 pm. This gives you plenty of time to meet people, have a few drinks, and fall a sleep when the sun goes down. The long day on the bike was 88 miles with the shortest was 52 miles. I lost over 30 pounds, and got my butt back into cycling shape. I would recommend everyone try a supported tour even if it was for couple of days.

Training in the Rain for GRABAAWR

It has been a while since the last time I blogged about my bike adventure and training is going slow. I have lost 25 pounds and started to ride my bike to work. Round trip is about 35 miles, and the ride is pretty flat except for a few hills. I have wanted to get more rides in, but the weather has not been on my side. Since I am down to 8 weeks I need to push ahead and get more miles on. Amber took this picture after a 12 mile ride in a down pour. But off course it stops raining after the ride. To make up for lost time I have added running during my off days on the bike. I sure do not enjoy running!

Bike Adventure (GRABAAWR) Update

It has been 2 months since the last time I blogged about my bike adventure, and training is on track. I have lost over 15 pounds and putting plenty of miles on my butt (I ride my bike on a trainer in the basement). However, riding in the basement is so boring that I have started to run these past 2 weeks instead of riding. Once the weather stay above 50 degrees I will get back on the bike and ride couple of hours a day (4-5 days a week). You will also noticed that they change our finish to Muscoda instead of Spring Green. This has add 20+ mile on the trip, and new mileage total will be 448-489 miles, 64-70 miles average per day. Crazy!!!!
