Ice Fishing - 01/27/07

Ice Fishing in Lac du Flambeau, WI

Amber and I went ice fishing in northern WI with her family. This was the first time I have ever gone, and it was very enjoyable. We did not catch anything, but the beer was cold, and the company was delightful. We will have to do this again in the near future.

Austin, TX - 1/20/07

The picture on the left is from the LBJ President Library. It was very cool, and you have a great time seeing the history of LBJ. It is educational, but they have many impressive displays, and it is free. After the library we went to the “The Story of Texas” Museum. It covers the history of Texas and its people. The cost was only $5.50 per person, and parking was free. It was nice, but it had lots of reading, and very little displays. The library is better then the museum. Right up the street is the capital, and very impressive from the outside. Over all the trip was great, and weather was drizzly but it did not affect our mood. We would love to visit more of the state on our next trip from the plains to the coast.

San Antonio, TX - 1/19/07

Amber and I went to San Antonio, TX to visit the local sites. We had a great time seeing the "Alamo". I high recommend that everyone see it once in their life time. It is in the heart of city, but once you enter the mission it feels like going back in time. You get to see the original wall, building, artifacts, and so on. Very impressive!

We also walked the famous "River walk", and eat at a local Mexican restaurant. The river setup with all the shops and eating place would be a very romantic in spring, and with warmth. Maybe the next time, it will be warmer and we can enjoy the evening.

We traveled up the “Tower of America’s”. It is a lot like the Seattle Space Needle, and it gives you a 360 view of the city. The fog was pretty bad, but you could still see the main parts of the city. The price is only $11, pretty affordable. This also includes a 4-D movie about Texas.

Ice Covered Rental Car in Round Rock, TX

Dell Training in Round Rock, TX

Talk about a trip that could go wrong. As you might have heard the weather in Texas has been horrible. Since the weekend they have been having ice storms, and it is causing lots of problems for travel and training. To give you a brief run down.

Sunday: I get to the airport in Milwaukee, and they canceled my flight due to ice in Dallas. I get a new flight that flies out around 6 am on Monday, and arrives after 2 pm (Milwaukee-Chicago-Dallas-Austin). After working with them for 30 minutes I get a new flight that leaves at 7ish, and arrives at noon (Milwaukee-St. Louis-Austin).

Monday: Get to airport, and my plane that carries me to St. Louis has to be cancel due to plane repair. Because of the snow storm in Milwaukee, they do not have a flight that will connect in St. Louis in time. They have to get me on a different flight in Chicago. I get bused down to Chicago in the snow storm, and get a direct flight to Austin. Once in Chicago my flight is delayed for 40 minutes for deicing. Even though I might be having all these problems, I will only miss a half day of training. I called Dell before take off, and left a message telling them I will be late, but will get in around 1 pm. After I land in Austin, I check my email and my training class has been CANCELED for Monday due to ice storm.

Tuesday: After checking my email, I got another message stating that the class has been CANCELED for Tuesday. However, I got an email that said classes is still on for Wednesday and Thursday. After 3:30 pm, I got another email telling me that my class has been moved from Wed-Thur to Thur-Friday due to weather. I sent Dell an email telling them that I can not attend the class on Friday (out on vacation, visiting friends in other part of TX).

In a nutshell, my trip has been an adventure and I will have to retry in couple of months. Crazy!!!!
